Governance
ISO 37000:2021 Governance of Organizations
Strengthen the direction, oversight, and accountability of the organization.
About the standard
The first global consensus standard on organizational governance, giving governing bodies a shared reference for exercising their oversight duties responsibly. It frames governance around a clearly articulated organizational purpose and a set of interlocking principles covering strategy, accountability, and stakeholder value creation. The guidance is deliberately non-prescriptive, allowing it to be adapted by organizations of any size, sector, or legal structure.
Objectives of the standard
- Establish a universal, cross-sector definition of good governance
- Anchor governance decisions in a clearly articulated organizational purpose
- Guide governing bodies in overseeing strategy and performance
- Strengthen accountability and stakeholder value creation
- Offer an adaptable framework rather than a rigid compliance checklist
Who benefits: Boards, governing bodies, and senior leaders.
