About the standard
ISO 55001:2024
Asset Management System
Specifies what an organization must do to build, operate, sustain and keep enhancing a management system covering whichever assets it chooses to bring into scope. Any type of organization can adopt it, deciding for itself which asset classes the system applies to. The 2024 edition sharpens the original requirements around decision-making, value realization, strategic planning, risk and opportunity, data and knowledge, and life-cycle activities, drawing on roughly a decade of implementation experience.
Key objectives
- Tie asset-related decisions and value realization explicitly to organizational objectives
- Treat risk and opportunity separately so each gets proportionate attention
- Give strategic asset management planning a clearer, more practical role
- Recognize data, information and knowledge as assets that must be actively managed
- Strengthen life-cycle management and predictive action across an asset's operating life
Who uses it
Asset-intensive organizations in utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, and transport.
Contribution to the SDGs
